Reefcare Volunteers

Reefcare Volunteers Long Reef
Founded in 1997 by local residents.
A registered Landcare and Coastcare group.

We work to protect and restore natural areas within Long Reef’s Griffith Park’s park foreshore, sand dunes and Themeda (native) grasslands. We wish to limit the decline in biodiversity, especially bird habitats. The native grasslands were restored – Bitou Bush removed by Reefcare volunteers in 2000 thru 2008.This was a mammoth task with thousands of hours given by over eighty local and visiting volunteers.

Regular project workdays

Our group meets on the first Saturday of each month and works 9 to 12 noon maintaining the restored grassland out on Long Reef Headland Point – see photo.We meet at the top car park above Fishermans Beach at 9am then walk out to the project site. Note – there is free parking in Anzac Av. for non Warringah residents.

Volunteer with Reefcare

Reefcare always welcomes new volunteers and you are most welcome to come along on these Council supervised days. Gloves are provided. Please E-mail us to confirm your interest. Persons interested in becoming a regular volunteer will be asked to attend a council run induction course.
