Join Reefcare, conserve Long Reef every first Saturday of the month. Make a lasting impact!

Long Reef Reefcare understands the importance of conservation. It's a team effort to protect our environment.

Our mission is to protect and restore Long Reef's native ecosystems by removing invasives and promoting indigenous flora & fauna to safeguard its unique heritage and ecological significance.

What we do

Since 1997, Long Reef Bushcare (Reefcare) has evolved from weed removal at Fisherman's Beach to focusing on restoring the Long Reef Headland area. Over the past 15 years, we've targeted Bitou Bush removal and the re-establishment of the original Themeda grassland. Our environmental efforts were recognised by Warringah Council, Clean Beach Council and Keep Australia Beautiful Council (NSW), securing $200,000+ grants from NSW EPA, Coastcare, and Natural Heritage Trust.

Get involved

Join us on the first Saturday of each month (except in January) to help conserve Long Reef. All are welcome, whether new or experienced. We gather at the southern end of the Long Reef car park at 8:45 am, aiming to start on site by 9 am and conclude by 12 pm. We provide tools, gloves, and training as we work to increase native Themeda grasslands. Sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen, long pants, and sleeves are recommended. We take a break for morning tea around 10:30 am to chat and recharge.

“I love bush regeneration with Reefcare. It's not just about clearing weeds; it's about rejuvenating a beautiful environment and making a positive impact on our local flora and fauna.”

— Lisa Calder, Longreef Reefcare Group Leader
